As expected, PS5 Slim Digital 30th Anniversary Edition preorders sold out quickly at major retailers after becoming available on October 10 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Despite being available at five retailers, the $500 PS1-inspired console appeared to sell out just as fast as it did two weeks prior. PlayStation Direct hosted preorders on the full 30th Anniversary Collection on September 26. The only other 30th Anniversary hardware that’s carried by major retailers is the $80 special-edition DualSense controller that comes with the PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition–but that too sold out quickly at all retailers.
If you were hoping to dive into the PlayStation 5 ecosystem for the first time with the 30th Anniversary console, you should take a look at the limited-time deals on the PS5 Slim (with disc drive) and PS5 Slim Digital at Amazon. Through October 12, bot consoles are available for $50 off.
Alternatively, you could spring for the PS5 Pro, which is now available to preorder at major retailers. As of 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET, the PlayStation 5 Pro is still in stock at Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

The PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition is available to preorder at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop.
Note that Walmart preorders are exclusive to paid Walmart+ members ($13/month or $98/year). While that may be an extra hurdle to jump through for Walmart shoppers, the upshot is you hopefully won’t have to contend with as many people–nor as many bots and scalpers–trying to order the console at the same time. Similarly, you need a Pro membership to preorder from GameStop

The PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Edition costs $100 more than the baseline PS5 Slim Digital, and is identical to it in terms of hardware and features, but comes with exclusive faceplates and a DualSense controller with gray color schemes inspired by the original PlayStation console. Like the regular PS5 Slim Digital, the Anniversary Edition does not include a disc drive, so it can only play digitally-downloaded PS5 games out of the box. You can purchase the optional PS5 Disc Drive accessory if you want to play physical games on the system, and it comes with an extra PS1-themed faceplate that will fit around the drive once attached. The PS5 disc drive normally costs $80–however, due to the upcoming PS5 Slim Digital Anniversary Collection and disc-drive-less PS5 Pro, the PS5 Disc Drive is hard to come by right now. Early preorders have been available exclusively through the PlayStation Store, but they are now available at major retailers as of October 10.
