The latest Quake Champions update is officially live and includes a brand-new Horde mode along with additional content and bug fixes.
Update 2’s Horde Mode, which was made by MachineGames, is a 1-4 player co-op mode which can be played solo, with bots, or with friends. Horde allows players to face off against waves of enemies of increasing difficulty. Players can earn silver keys to unlock access to better weapons, and serving long enough will earn them a gold key, which allows them to escape.
The update also introduces a new way to experience Quake with the free Honey add-on, which lets players encounter waterlogged crypts and underground temples while battling a plague. Honey uses fog effects and silhouettes for a better ambience and is a fan-favourite add-on in the community.
In addition, owners of the Ouake re-release can log in with their Bethesda details in-game to earn the Ranger Slayer Skin for Doom Eternal and the Quake Guy Ranger Skin with the Gladus Axe in Quake Champions. However, as well as owning Quake, players must also own DOOM Eternal or Quake Champions to use the skins. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch users can unlock the Ranger Slayer Skin in DOOM Eternal alongside Update 6.66 sometime in early 2022.
The update also marks the Quake release on the Epic Games Store for PC.
