Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 4 remake has sold over 3 million copies worldwide in the first two days of release. Additionally, cumulative shipments for the series now exceed 135 million units since the first Resident Evil game debuted in 1996.
“Along with securing high scores on online review sites, the title garnered praise and attention following the release of the Chainsaw Demo, in which players could enjoy the opening of the game, resulting in worldwide sales of the title surpassing 3 million units in the first two days after the game’s release,” Capcom said in a statement.
Capcom continued, “Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all stakeholders by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”
Resident Evil 2 remake crossed the 3 million units sold milestone within a week of its release back in 2019, while the Resident Evil 3 remake sold 2 million units in 5 days in 2020.
There’s still more coming for the Resident Evil 4 remake. The game’s The Mercenaries mode is coming as a free update in April, and a data miner recently uncovered references to a possible story expansion called Separate Ways.
In GameSpot’s Resident Evil 4 remake review, we said, “Like the Resident Evil 2 remake before it, the studio has used advancements in technology and design to modernize an iconic survival-horror and action game by placing emphasis on capturing the spirit of the original, and respectfully evoking the same sense of atmosphere and tone that the original developers aspired to.”
