Rings Of Power Delivers An Epic Trailer For Season 2 During Comic-Con

Lord of the Rings fans can rejoice as the highly anticipated Season 2 of Prime Video’s The Rings of Power is just one month away. It’s been two years since the show based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s lore of Middle-earth Second Age premiered, and on August 29 the adventure continues.

At Comic-Con during their panel presentation, Prime Video unleashed an epic trailer for the new season that runs almost four minutes long and doesn’t simply hint at the things to come but screams them from the top of Mount Doom. Outside of more Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), and Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), there’s much to take in. From the first trailer, we saw the forging of the Elven and Dwarven rings–that’s 10 right there, but now Sauron (Charles Vickers) is demanding nine more. We see more of the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and Nori (Markella Kavenagh) still on their quest to recover his lost memories. There’s even a brief look at the Balrog, who has been asleep in Moria, and a couple of Ents, the tree-giants.

Considering the wait time fans have endured, Prime Video is releasing a three-episode season premiere, with new episodes airing on Thursdays. This trailer feels exponentially more Tolkien-esque, sprinkling in more elements to fans who might only be familiar with the Peter Jackson films. Much like the previous season, Season 2 looks to introduce previously untouched Tolkien material for live-action.

The longtime exclusion of Tom Bombadil from live-action media ends as Rory Kinnear dons the blue coat and brimmed hat of the enigmatic master. Bombadil’s origins are still somewhat of a mystery, especially how he is resistant towards the rings’ dark pull.

“In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will,” the official synopsis reads. “Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots…as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all…each other.”

Showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne announced back in February that they extended their partnership with Amazon and signed a new three-year deal with the company, getting an early start to Season 3.
