Musician and director Rob Zombie has closed a deal with Universal to direct a new movie based on The Munsters. He confirmed the news on Instagram, saying he’s been chasing the project for two decades and he’s finally getting it done.
“Attention Boils and Ghouls! The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!” he wrote.
Fellow rockers Nikki Sixx and Lzzy Hale congratulated Zombies on the movie in the comments, with Sixx writing, “Perfect fit. So excited bro.” Hale commented, “I’m so excited!!!”
The Munsters was originally a TV show that premiered in the ’60s, following the lives of a family of monsters. It ran at the same time as The Addams Family.
It’s still very early days for Zombie’s new The Munsters movie, so there is no word yet on the cast or any plot details. It has been rumored that Zombie’s Munsters movie could be exclusive to Peacock, but this has not been confirmed.
Zombie directed a number of horror movies, including The Devil’s Rejects and 2007’s Halloween. The Munsters has more of a comedy angle, so it’ll be interesting to see what Zombie does with it.
The Munsters was rebooted in the late ’80s with The Munsters Today, while comedian Seth Meyers has attempted to bring the series back with a modern-day show.
