There has been a slew of announcements coming from this year’s Hall H at Comic-Con, one of the biggest is 100 percent confirming that Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, is indeed Captain America going forward. Director Julius Onah is set to helm the MCU adventure with Wilson wielding the shield. Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who tackled Wilson on The Falcon and Winter Soldier, will co-write the movie.
The new Captain America movie will be at the tail-end of the recently revealed Phase 5, heading into theaters right before Thunderbolts caps off the new wave with a tentative date of May 3, 2024.
The exact plot details are still up in the air, but the story could be almost anything. However, with a name like New World Order, odds are we could see Nick Spencer’s controversial Captain America run mixing with Secret Empire, or maybe something even more modern taking notes from Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leinil Francis Yu’s Winter In America arc.
There was a bit of talk online with former Cap actor Chris Evans clarifying that Wilson will be taking on the Cap uniform after it seemed Steve Rogers could be returning. In The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, it was obvious that Sam had officially been named as Captain America when John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, had not exactly worked out.
Captain America: New World Order is just one of the recent announcements spearheading the upcoming Phase 5 of the MCU.
