The Scream franchise has set a timetable for its return. Although the original plans for Scream 7 fell apart in late 2023, Paramount and Spyglass have staked out the new date: February 27, 2026.
Neve Campbell, the actress who has portrayed Sydney Prescott in every film except Scream 6, made the announcement on her Instagram page. She also co-published the post with Scream 7 director, Kevin Williamson.
To date, Campbell is the only cast member from any of the previous Scream films who is confirmed to be returning for the next sequel. The actress sat out of the sixth movie over a pay dispute. Courtney Cox did reprise her role as reporter Gale Weathers, a part she’s had since the first Scream in 1996. However, Cox recently revealed that she hasn’t decided whether to return for Scream 7 yet.
As originally conceived, Scream 7 would have featured Melissa Barerra and Jenna Ortega reprising their leading roles as the Carpenter sisters, Sam and Tara. But in November 2023, Barerra was fired from the film after she spoke out about the war in Gaza on social media. Subsequently, it was revealed that Ortega also withdrew from the sequel, but only because it conflicted with her Wednesday Season 2 schedule. Campbell and Williamson were brought on board afterwards to put the project back on track.
