Shrek’s iconic swamp house from the popular animated film is available to rent on Airbnb, and it looks very peaceful and serene. “Shrek’s Swamp” is located in the Scottish Highlands in Scotland, and it’s a recreation of the ogre’s home, with an impressive amount of detail.
Shrek’s Swamp is available for one weekend only, October 27-29 this year. Bookings open on October 13 at 6 PM BST, so anyone interested needs to log on right away and hope to get lucky. And just to be clear, this is not a contest of any sort, so guests need to pay to get to Scotland and for their stay; rates were not posted on the Airbnb listing, however.
The secluded home is surrounded by trails and picnic locations, with forests filled with conifer trees and limited light pollution to help you see the night sky very clearly.
The home itself is modeled after the one from the film, featuring a dirt floor, wood bed, and a dinner table with a candle made to look like the earwax candle from the film. Outside the home there are “Beware Ogre” and “Stay Out” signs, just like there were in the movie.
While Shrek did his business in an outhouse on the property, guests will find a more traditional, toilet, sink, and shower at an off-site location about 20 meters away from the swamp itself.
The property is owned by Ardverikie Estate, and the listing notes that Universal Studios was paid for the rights to the Shrek and Donkey characters. What’s more, Airbnb is making a one-time donation to Scotland’s HopScotch Children’s Charity as part of this promotion.
As for the Shrek series, movie boss Chris Meledandri said recently that it is his hope that Mike Meyers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) return for Shrek 5 to reprise their characters.
“We anticipate the cast coming back,” Meledandri said, though he cautioned that it’s still early days and no deals have been signed as of yet. “Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”
The first Shrek debuted in 2001, with sequels Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek The Third (2007), and Shrek: Forever After (2010) each following three years apart. Holiday specials Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless were also released, in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, released in 2022, and was a critical and commercial success as an extension of the Shrek universe.
Shrek 5 was at one point eyeing a 2019 release, but obviously that did not happen.
