Snowboarding Game Shredders Announced For Xbox, Coming December 2021

Snowboarding fans looking for a new-gen take on the sport can finally hit the slopes on PC and Xbox Series X, as Shredders has just been revealed. Announced at Microsoft and Bethesda’s joint showcase conference, Shredders features fluid tricks, lots of snowboard-grinding, and the opportunity to grab some big air when you hit a ramp.

The game describes itself as being for riders and by riders, and will be available on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as on Xbox Game Pass when it launches in December.

Developer Foam Punch added that the game will include actual professional snowboarders, with names of the roster being revealed in the coming months.

“With Shredders, we have tried to build a snowboarding experience that allows you to define your own style,” Foam Punch said on Xbox Wire of the control scheme. “In snowboarding there are so many incredible ways to do a simple 180 and Shredders gives you that level of control. Carving, buttering, and the sensation of floating on fresh powder all feels amazing.”

To achieve that sensation, Shredders will keep the convention of one thumbstick for the board and one stick for the body, thus allowing for a wide range of control that can be fast and aggressive or you can change up your style whenever you want. The studio also wants Shredders to encourage freedom and agency over your ride, allowing for rewarding exploration of its gameplay mechanics.

“We took a lot of inspiration from a whole bunch of awesome snowboarding films, the Amped games from the original Xbox –still so good!–and our snowboarding heroes on Instagram,” Foam Punch added.

As for multiplayer, Foam Punch said that every other rider you see on the mountain is a real rider playing right there with you, which means that competition can occur at any given time when the gauntlet is thrown down. You’ll still be able to shred with friends, or you can stick to the mountain trails for a solo ride.
