The final season of Snowpiercer debuts on AMC on July 21. Season 4 will bring the dystopian sci-fi series to a proper close, which is surely a relief to many fans after Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the standout TNT show in 2023 following Season 3. Thankfully, AMC swooped in and picked it up. Whether you’re anxiously awaiting the final season or want to watch the TV show for the first time, you may be interested in reading the original graphic novel series that inspired the show (and the beloved 2013 movie). Snowpiercer was first published in France in 1982 and translated to English by Titan Comics in 2014 following the success of the feature film adaptation. It follows a train that runs continuously around Earth, which houses the remains of humanity after an environmental disaster plunged the Earth into a new ice age. It’s an intriguing premise–and if you’re a fan of sci-fi or dystopian thrillers, it’s certainly worth a read.
As for the popular 2013 film starring Chris Evans: Snowpiercer was award-winning director Bong Joon Ho’s first English film. Bong is now best-known for Parasite, the 2019 black comedy that took home Best Picture at the Oscars and earned the filmmaker Best Director and Best Original Screenplay awards, too.
If you’re a fan of Snowpiercer’s film adaptation, you should check out the hardcover art book detailing the creation of the film. And if you’d rather check out the first volume in the graphic novel series before committing to the whole set, individual paperback volumes are available on Amazon, too.
There’s also a Snowpiercer prequel series for fans to check out. The first two volumes have already been released, but Volume 3, Annihilation, has been MIA for years–it’s unclear if and when it will finally release.
