There is a big superhero cameo coming to the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which lands on HBO Max on March 18. However, it won’t be Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Green Lantern.
A quote from a recent Vanity Fair piece on the upcoming Justice League director’s cut explains that Snyder “reshot the ending with a hero cameo that will blow hardcore fans’ minds.” Of course, many people are wondering if that cameo will be Reynolds. The actor played Hal Jordan in 2011’s Green Lantern, which did not win over critics and fans. He took to Twitter to let everyone know that it isn’t him.
One of DC Comics’ space police popping up in HBO Max’s Justice League is very likely, considering that the streaming service is working on a Green Lantern TV series, first announced in October 2019, seven months before the launch of the streaming service. The show will focus on two Green Lanterns from Earth, most likely one of the already established DC Comics Earthlings: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, or Jessica Cruz. Jordan and Stewart seem like the most-likely candidates. No release date has been revealed for the show, but Season 1 will consist of 10, one-hour episodes.
Aside from Green Lantern, there are many other candidates for the Snyder Cut who connect to upcoming movies–or even films that were already released: Shazam, Black Adam (he’s a hero to some), Robin/Nightwing, Hawkman, or any of the characters from HBO Max’s Titans or Doom Patrol. There are some out there who are really hoping for a Booster Gold appearance too, but that might be for fans that are “too hardcore.”
The Vanity Fair piece also revealed that Snyder never saw the theatrical release of Justice League and reshoots for the movie cost $70 million.
