Somerville Gets Atmospheric New Trailer At E3 2021

Microsoft shared a new trailer for Somerville during its E3 2021 showcase. The video gave us our first look at the mysterious new game from indie studio Jumpship, evoking a similar atmosphere to Limbo and Inside.

The trailer revealed little in the way of story details, but it set a moody tone for the adventure, showcasing a character exploring a variety of bleak environments. Partway through the trailer, giant spear-like objects begin raining from the sky, and the character can be seen fleeing with his family through dilapidated ruins.

Somerville is slated to release for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2022. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Somerville was originally announced back in 2017. Developer Jumpship was founded in collaboration with Playdead’s Dino Patti, who worked on the aforementioned Limbo and Inside. Patti is serving as Somerville’s executive producer and described the title as a “sci-fi action-adventure that chronicles the lives of key individuals in the wake of a global catastrophe.”

We got a look at a ton of other titles during the Xbox/Bethesda E3 showcase, including Bethesda’s Starfield and Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. You can catch up on all the biggest news and reveals in our Xbox/Bethesda E3 showcase roundup.
