Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Is Already Doing Great At The Box Office

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is already putting up big numbers at the box office. The movie pulled in $16 million in Thursday previews in the US, which is good for the second-best start for an animated movie in the history of film, only trailing 2018’s Incredibles 2 ($18.5 million).

2018’s Into the Spider-Verse, for comparison, made $3.5 million for its Thursday screenings in the US, going on to make $12.6 million on its first Friday and $35.3 million for its first weekend stateside. All of these box office figures come from Deadline.

Across the Spider-Verse is expected to make in the range of $75 million-$90 million for its first weekend in the US, which would be more than double the first movie’s opening-weekend results. The record for biggest opening weekend in the US for an animated movie belongs to Incredibles 2, which made $182.6 million for its opening weekend in America back in 2018.

GameSpot’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse review scored the movie an 8/10. Reviewer Phil Owen said, “Across the Spider-Verse is a visual feast unlike anything I’ve ever seen before in a movie theater. It’s transcendent, really. Maybe, for this film, that’s all that will end up mattering.”

Across the Spider-Verse will be followed up by Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024. There is also a new live-action Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland in the works and a Spider-Woman movie happening.
