Spider-Man: No Way Home Breaks Box Office Records

Spider-Man: No Way Home is doing very big business at the box office. The superhero film pulled in $121.5 million in North America (including previews) for Friday, which makes it the second biggest Friday for any movie in North American history; only Avengers: Endgame ($157.4 million) did better. All of these numbers come from Hollywood news site Deadline.

No Way Home’s $121.5 million in the US for its opening day is ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $119.1 million on its first Friday in North America back in 2015 before the pandemic.

For the full weekend, No Way Home is now projected to make as much as $247.5 million over its first three days in North America. It has big work to do to catch up to the highest first-weekend earners, which include Avengers: Endgame ($357.1 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($257.7 million), and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.96 million).

Nothing is certain, of course, and No Way Home could do bigger numbers than expected. The film has an A+ CinemaScore rating–the highest possible–which suggests box office numbers will continue to be strong thanks to word of mouth.

According to a report, Sony is spending more than $200 million to promote No Way Home, so it makes sense that strong box office numbers would follow.

No Way Home has made $181.4 million from international markets, pushing its global haul above $300 million after just a few days in theaters.

Sony producer Amy Pascal recently said a new Spider-Man trilogy of films with Tom Holland could be in the works, but importantly, no deal has been made. Holland is planning to take a break from acting and focus on his family and other endeavors.
