Splatoon 3 Trailer Teases New Salmon Run, Summer Release Date Window

Splatoon 3 is coming this year, and Nintendo offered new gameplay details in the latest trailer at its Nintendo Direct. It also teased a summer release date window, though did not give a more specific time.

The new trailer focused on Salmon Run, the co-op horde-like mode. It showed off elements like an Egg Throw and ended with a tease of a giant Salmonid beast. Very spooky.

Now Playing: Splatoon 3 – Salmon Run Next Wave Trailer

Nintendo last showed new footage of Splatoon 3 in September, where it teased a story mode that would be the “return of the Mammalians.” Despite its deceptively cute style, the Splatoon series takes place in a post-apocalypse and often hints at a mass extinction event that took place before the squid kids roamed the earth. The name Mammalians’ suggests a new faction of less fishy creatures preparing to join the fray.

Splatoon 2 was a launch window title for the Nintendo Switch, having released just a few months after the hardware. It received some post-launch support in the form of updates, the Octo Expansion, and various community-centered splatfests. It’s one of the most successful Switch games so far, standing at roughly 12 million units sold worldwide.
