The Star Wars TV show Andor, which is a prequel to the movie Rogue One, has finished filming. Series star Diego Luna, who plays the title character, told Deadline that filming has wrapped on the 12-episode show, going on to tease that it will feature some “familiar faces.”
“You’ll definitely see familiar faces. I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Stars Wars: Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.” Luna is referring to what happens to his character in the Rogue One movie.
Luna also reflected on filming Andor during the pandemic, saying it was “such a blessing to do this job and to do it under these circumstances.”
“I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more. It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky,” Luna said. “While I can’t say much, what I can tell you is that the experience was literally a transformation for me. It’s something that I really wanted to do and that I thought I was not going to be able to do. I’m more than happy.”
Very little is known about the plot of Andor, but we do know that Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO will not appear in season one. “I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season,” he teased.
Andor is set for release on Disney+ in 2022, but a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. It’s not the only live-action Star Wars TV show coming to the streaming platform, as the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor is also on the way–it, too, recently finished filming.
2016’s Rogue One was tremendously successful, making more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide.
