Disney has announced that production is now underway on its next Star Wars live-action TV series, The Acolyte, and the company also confirmed the cast.
As announced previously, Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) and Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) will star on the show alongside Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones).
The Acolyte is described as a “mystery-thriller” that takes place in the final days of the High Republic era. Viewers will see a world of “shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers.”
“A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated,” reads a line from the show’s description.
The Acolyte’s showrunner and executive producer is Leslye Headland, the showrunner and co-creator of Netflix’s Russian Doll. Whenever it’s ready, The Acolyte will stream on Disney+.
It’s not the only new live-action Star Wars TV series in the works, as Spider-Man director Jon Watts is making a new series that is reportedly set after the events of Return of the Jedi.
Disney’s current big new Star Wars TV show is Andor, which has three episodes to go in Season 1. For more, check out GameSpot’s Andor review for the first four episodes.
