Stardew Valley Developer Vows To Never Charge Money For DLC

Stardew Valley is nearly a decade old at this point, but developer Eric Barone says he’s still hard at work on the game’s next PC update, as well as porting its existing content to its console versions. He also vowed to never charge money for a “DLC or update for as long as I live.”

Barone posted these two updates on social media, further stating that he’s working on Stardew’s mobile port every day, and that “it’s on my mind every minute.” He also said that he will announce when there is any meaningful news, meaning a release date for either project, and reiterated that he will not charge money for any DLC or updates to Stardew. It’s unclear if this vow applies to future game releases.

Barone has provided consistent updates for Stardew Valley over its lifespan, to the point where fans often say that the game has served as its own sequel in terms of new content. The unofficial follow-up to Stardew, Haunted Chocolatier, was first announced in 2021, and it does not have a set release date. Barone revealed in a 2022 Game Informer feature that he is working on another unannounced project in addition to Haunted Chocolatier and the continuous Stardew updates.
