Succession Star Brian Cox Agreed To The 007 Game Show Thinking It Was A Bond Movie

Brian Cox (Succession, revealed on The Tonight Show recently that he had mistakenly believed that signing on for Prime Video’s competition series 007: Road to a Million meant he had been cast in an upcoming James Bond film.

Cox candidly confessed his initial mix-up on the talk show, stating, “I thought it was the new James Bond film. So I said, ‘They’re finally getting me in a James Bond film!'” Cox’s unexpected involvement with the competition series came as a shock to him, as he had long harbored ambitions of portraying a James Bond villain. Check out the clip below of Cox revealing how he didn’t really read the fine print for the opportunity.

This squares with Cox also recently divulging that he had felt “ignored” by the producers of the James Bond movie series over the years. In an interview with GQ published in September, Cox expressed his belief that he would make an excellent Bond villain in a 007 film, though he acknowledged that his opportunity for such a role might have passed.

The Prime Video show, 007: Road to a Million, introduces nine pairs of contestants embarking on a global adventure filled with Bond-inspired challenges, all competing for the grand prize of 1 million British Pounds (roughly $1,228,620). Cox takes on the role of The Controller, the mastermind behind the challenges who selects destinations and missions for the paired contestants.

“For years, I thought I’d love to be a James Bond villain,” Cox told Jimmy Fallon. “It would be really interesting. I thought, ‘This is my moment!’ But it wasn’t.”

All eight episodes of 007: Road to a Million are set to premiere on Prime Video on November 10.
