Following an incredibly lucrative run in theaters where it banked more than $1.3 billion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now available to stream at home. The animated film has debuted exclusively on Peacock in the US, arriving today, August 3.
A release on Peacock was always expected because production company Universal and Peacock share the same parent company in NBC Universal.
In addition to the movie itself, the Peacock release includes a “Field Guide” that includes a range of bonus features like cast interviews and more, according to Deadline. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was already available to buy or rent digitally, but August 3 marked the first time that you can stream the film without paying extra.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is not only the highest-grossing video game movie of all time, but it’s the third highest-grossing animated film ever, trailing only Frozen II and The Lion King.
It continues to be 2023’s highest-grossing movie, outpacing Barbie ($811 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($845 million), and every other movie released this year. The Super Mario Bros. Movie currently ranks as the 15th highest-grossing movie of all time.
Given the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, many are naturally wondering if a sequel will be made. Nothing has been announced yet, however. Beyond a potential sequel, it’s been reported that Illumination and Nintendo might make a Zelda film. Illumination’s boss responded to these rumors but did not debunk them for whatever that is worth.
