System Shock Remake Is Out In May For Consoles

The System Shock remake, first released for PC back in May 2023, is finally becoming available on consoles a year later. This revision of the classic immersive shooter will become available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 21st.

The latest trailer gives an overview of the game’s story and revamped visuals–just in case you missed the PC version on purpose and have been waiting to play comfortably from your couch instead. As of now, developer Nightdive Studios hasn’t disclosed any console-exclusive features or details about performance settings.

Now Playing: System Shock Remake – Official Console Release Date Gameplay Trailer

Even if you’re not a console player, the release date reveal is also a potentially interesting announcement for the PC version. As stated in the December 2023 Update over at the game’s Kickstarter campaign, the team has been holding onto the release of patch 1.2 to provide “feature parity with the console versions,” according to the written update.

“What this effectively means is that our players on PC will be getting the best version of the game, and will enjoy the same experience as our console friends,” the written update read. “The PC patch is slated to go live early in 2024.”

Nightdive is yet to disclose whether patch 1.2 will hit PC first, but at the very least, it’s fairly safe to assume the console release date also serves as a hard deadline. There are dozens of upcoming fixes and additions in the patch, including a female Hacker as a playable character, a rework of the entire final fight, major optimizations across the game, and more.
