System Shock TV Show In The Works

A System Shock TV show is in the works for the upcoming gaming-focused streaming platform Binge (which has nothing to do with the Australian streaming service Binge).

Binge will produce a live-action TV series based on System Shock, and it will stream exclusively on Binge.com. Allan Ungar, an executive at Binge who directed the impressive Uncharted short featuring Nathan Fillion, is producing the show alongside Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman from Nightdive Studios as executive producers.

The original System Shock was released in 1994 and developed by Looking Glass, with Doug Church directing and Warren Spector producing. Nightdive Studios now owns the rights to the series and is remaking the original game.

System Shock is an iconic franchise adored by gamers for more than two decades and a series that helped redefine what it meant to play an FPS,” Ungar said. “We’re excited to do right by the franchise–and the genre–in bringing System Shock to life. Get ready for Shodan.”

Kick added: “I’ve always believed that a live action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror. W’’re very excited to see the talented team at Binge bring System Shock to life in horrifyingly real and new ways.”

It’s still early days, so there is no word yet on a cast, director, release date, or any other specifics about the System Shock TV series.

System Shock is just the latest project in the works at Binge, following the announcement of a Driver TV show based on Ubisoft’s series. Additionally, Binge is working with El Rubius for a new show called Rubius Checkpoint.

Binge was announced during E3 2021. It will focus on producing streaming video content specifically for gamers. The company is aiming to do it “in a way that respects the fans and the games that inspire them,” Bingie says. Binge is scheduled to launch in 2022.

Binge has a feature called Squad Parties which allows users to watch together and earn rewards for doing so. You can sign up for updates on Binge’s website here.
