The Boys Season 4 finale was shrouded in controversy and there was a belief it would be delayed due to the assassination attempt of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. That proved not to be the case, but Prime Video renamed the episode from “Assassination Run” to simply “Season Four Finale.” The finale also came with a post-credits stinger that brings back a fan-favorite character, but it might not be a complete surprise.
Warning, from here on our we are talking about spoilers from the final episode of The Boys Season 4, titled “Season Four Finale.”
After a brief slide of credits, the scene jumps to an underground chamber. From there, former Senator, now President of the United States, Steven Calhoun (David Andrews), takes Homelander (Antony Starr) into a cramped room where a single seemingly cryogenic tube resides. Calhoun was just sworn in after President-elect Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver) was falsely accused of murdering Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit).
“How long have you known?” Homelander asks, to which Calhoun replies only since that morning with the classified briefing. He also says Homelander was his first call afterward.
“Hand to god,” he adds.
They head to the center of the room, as Homelander looks within the tube, and we see his face go through a range of emotions. “You gotta be f–king kidding me,” Homelander says. “This whole time.”
The camera pans to reveal the body of Solider Boy (Jensen Ackles), Homelander’s biological father.
Throughout Season 4 of The Boys, Solider Boy has been seen a handful of times, but nothing substantial. A quick glimpse of him on the cover of Vought Men’s Magazine, or a cardboard cutout in the abandoned video store. It’s fun to note though that at TruthCon a few episodes back, there was that booth promoting the idea that the CIA has Soldier Boy.
During the Season 3 finale, Homelander and The Boys teamed up to take Soldier Boy down, with Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) seemingly sacrificing herself to get Soldier Boy away from Vought Tower before he exploded. It was revealed that she faked her death, and Grace Mallory (Laila Robins) put Soldier Boy into hibernation, and that was the end of that…until this revelation.
Ackles also reprised his role on The Boys’ spin-off Gen V. However, he could only be seen in the mind of Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) when the rest of the team went inside her brain to stir her up from a coma.
