The Lord Of The Rings Is Returning To Theaters With Remastered And Extended Cuts

The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is returning to theaters, as Warner Bros. and Fathom Events have announced all three movies are screening again, but with a key change from previous theatrical re-releases.

This will be the first time Peter Jackson’s remastered versions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King will be in theaters. They’re also the extended editions.

Jackson remastered his LOTR trilogy in 4K in 2020 and fans have been able to buy those movies and watch them at home, but soon they’ll be in theaters again.

The movie theater chains AMC, Cinemark, and Regal are showing the re-releases. It’s a very limited event, though; here’s the schedule (via THR):

The Fellowship of the Ring – June 8The Two Towers – June 9Return of the King – June 10

2024 is shaping up to be a big year for The Lord of the Rings. In addition to this theatrical re-release, Prime Video’s The Rings of Power series is expected to come back this year, while the animated movie, The War of the Rohirrim, debuts in theaters this December.

On the video game side, Tales of the Shire is coming later this year, and it just a very warm and welcoming trailer.
