The Marvels releases in theaters this November, but how much money is expected to bring in? According to tracking estimates posted by The Hollywood Reporter, The Marvels is looking like it will bring in between $75 million-$80 million for its North American debut.
For comparison, 2019’s Captain Marvel earned $153.4 million for its opening weekend stateside. Box office tracking estimates aren’t an exact science. As THR said, the research firm NRG had projections of between $72 million-$88 million, while Quorum had it in the $80 million-$90 million range.
The Marvels is a sequel to Captain Marvel. In addition to Brie Larson coming back, the film stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. This is the 33rd MCU film, and the first to be directed by a Black woman, Nia DaCosta. DaCosta is also the youngest-ever director of an MCU film.
The movie’s stars are not allowed to promote The Marvels due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Warner Bros., meanwhile, delayed Dune: Part II from November to 2024 due in part to the strike, but Disney opted to keep The Marvels on its schedule.
