With five films in the can, the Mad Max film series has become one of cinema’s best combinations of cars, action, and post-apocalyptic mayhem. Which one is the best? If you said Mad Max: Fury Road, then you’ll probably want to take a look at the new limited-edition 4K Blu-ray edition at Amazon. Outside of the steelbook case, the big draw with this version is that it’s a region-free release, so no matter where you are in the world, this disc is guaranteed to work in your Blu-ray player.
This particular steelbook edition had only been available at Walmart, and it sold out very quickly. So if you missed out on it the first time, now’s your chance to snag a copy. It releases June 14 and is priced at $46.74 (was $52) at the moment.
Fury Road is a visually stunning film that deserves to be watched in 4K, but it’s worth noting this edition also comes with Blu-ray and digital copies of the film. But seriously, if you’re going to watch Immortan Joe and his War Boys turn the Australian wasteland into their personal playground, you’re going to see the most-detailed sand clouds and shiny chrome. Witness it!
For the extras, you’ll get all the special features from previous releases of the film, including the behind-the-scenes documentaries featuring stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, as well as a look behind the V8 curtain with director George Miller as he shows how the film was made across the scenic locations of Namibia, South Africa, and Australia.
Admittedly, this fresh steelbook release of Fury Road is expensive, so let’s check out another upcoming option.
Mad Max 5-Film Collection — $100 ($135)
If you’re looking to get the entire Mad Max saga, you can also check out this box set up for preorder on Amazon. Mad Max: Five-Film Collection includes the original trilogy starring Mel Gibson, the aforementioned Fury Road, and the latest entry in the series, Furiosa. Each film is presented in 4K, and it all comes packaged inside of a cool slipcase. A release date hasn’t been set.
Amazon is selling the collection for $35 less than Walmart at the moment.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Limited-Edition Steelbook — $35 ($55)
For those of you who just want to see Anya Taylor-Joy steal the show, you can also grab a preorder for Furiosa on its own from several retailers. The best offer is the 4K UHD Blu-ray with a steelbook case for $35 at Amazon or Walmart. But if you don’t care about steelbook cases, you can save five bucks with the standard 4K Blu-ray release. A release date hasn’t been announced.
