Nothing can stop The Super Mario Bros. Movie at the box office, not even Nic Cage hamming it up as Dracula. The family film from Nintendo and Illumination pulled in another $87 million domestically, meaning ticket sales only declined 41 percent from opening weekend.
That’s a new record for an animated movie in a second weekend, according to Variety. The Super Mario Bros. Movie has raked in $347.8 million in North America, with the worldwide haul now sitting at $678 million.

Now Playing: What Should Be In A Super Mario Bros. Sequel?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is already the highest-grossing video game movie of all time and the biggest box office hit overall this year. Previously, Detective Pikachu and Warcraft held the top gaming film spots with over $400 million. The Mario movie is breaking all sorts of records, like becoming Illumination’s biggest opening in history by beating out the original Minions.
As for the rest of the box office this past weekend, Cage’s Renfield underperformed with only $7.7 million to land in fourth place. The Pope’s Exorcist, starring Russell Crowe, came in second place with $9.1 million.
Meanwhile, John Wick: Chapter 4 added another $7.9 million to claim third place at the domestic box office. Globally, the action flick has earned $349 million, making it the most successful entry in the franchise so far.
Looking ahead, The Super Mario Bros. Movie seems primed to land at the top of the box office flag pole next weekend, too. The new competition on the way later this week includes Evil Dead Rising and Beau Is Afraid.
