If there’s one problem with Transformers toys, it’s that not nearly enough of them feature remote-control functions. Sure, Robosen has an impressive range that transforms, rolls out, and strikes a mean pose while shouting out their lines, but not everyone has a casual grand to drop on one of these. Fortunately, Walmart has a pretty good deal on right now for an Optimus Prime that can mechanically convert and be remote-controlled. Normally $51, you can get this cool toy for just $21.
You’ll need to be a member of the Walmart+ rewards program to get this deal early, but signing up is quick and easy. A membership costs $98 for a year, and it includes several other benefits like early access to sales, free shipping, a free subscription to Paramount Plus, and more. You also won’t find it for this price on Amazon during the ongoing Big Deal Days, as it’s exclusive to Walmart, but it will be available to all customers starting today.
Granted, you’re not going to get something as feature-rich as the Robosen Optimus Prime or Megatron, but for this price, this is a fun little collectible. Optimus is adorably chunky and is more accurate to his original Generation One appearance, and operating him in vehicle mode is easy to do. There are several light and sound effects for that extra touch, so there’s definitely more than meets the eye with this toy. In truck mode it looks quite impressive, so if you’re looking for something to display next to an Optimus figure, this is a good option.
If you’re looking for something more traditional, Amazon does have some fun Optimus Prime action figures on sale as well. The MPM-12 Optimus Prime is an accurate replica of the Autobot commander as he appears in the Bumblebee movie, and he is stacked with authentic details, an impressive amount of articulation, and he can still transform. Then there’s the Voyager-class version of Optimus as he appeared in the War for Cybertron games, a chunky and angular commander with an energon axe to grind on some Decepticon heads.
The War for Cybertron: Siege Optimus Prime is also a nice figure for G1 fans, and for something a little different, there’s the Power-Flip Optimus Prime toy based on his appearance in the recently released Transformers One movie.
