The Walking Dead Final Season Release Date Announced, More Zombies Promised

The end is near for AMC’s The Walking Dead. The network has confirmed that the eleventh and final season will begin August 22 on AMC. A cryptic new trailer has also been released.

The good news for fans is that the final season is super-sized. There are a whopping 24 episodes in Season 11, and it seems there is still a lot of story to unravel.

“Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we’re excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever,” showrunner Angela Kang said in a statement. “The stakes will be high–we’ll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them.”

Walking Dead boss Scott Gimple added, “I’m thrilled to share that fans won’t have to wait long for these incredible new episodes to debut this summer.”

The Walking Dead’s final season will be released in chunks. There will be three sets of eight-episode blocks that debut over time throughout 2021 and 2022, according to Deadline.

While The Walking Dead is ending, AMC is planning a spinoff featuring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s characters.
