Season 2 of The Witcher on Netflix is moving ahead. Now that filming has completed, the production team is in London working on post-production for the sophomore season.

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich said on Twitter, “Back in London. Back in the (small dark loud) rooms where it happens. That’s right, we’re deep into post-production on The Witcher S2, and I’m so f**king excited.”
The wait for Season 2 has been longer than expected, and that’s due to COVID-19. Filming was impacted by the pandemic, but the show remains on track for release in 2021.

“What happened in the first part of this year was that a lot of the projects that we’d hoped to come out earlier did get pushed because of the post-production delays and Covid delays and we think we’ll get back to a much steadier state in the back half of the year, certainly in Q4 where we have the returning seasons of some of our most popular shows like The Witcher and You and Cobra Kai as well as some big tentpole movies …” Netflix’s Ted Sarandos said in April (via Deadline).
Due to the pandemic delays, Thue Rasmussen dropped out of The Witcher S2, with Basil Eidenbenz coming aboard instead to play Eskel. Production S2 stopped and started multiple times due to interruptions related to the pandemic.
Hissrich has suggested that the story of The Witcher Season 2 will be easier to follow than that of Season 1, which was spread over different timelines. “The story will be much more linear, now that the three characters’ stories have started to intersect,” she explained.
The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Eamon Farren as Cahir, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. It’s based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which in turn inspired the popular video game series.
