Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel’s latest major MCU blockbuster, is crammed full of cameos across its two-hour runtime. While many of these are from 20th Century Fox’s slate of Marvel films, one of the MCU’s central characters also makes an appearance, but it was done in an unconventional way.

Now Playing: Deadpool & Wolverine's Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on Trying Out For Stray Kids
Thor is that character, and though he makes an appearance alongside Deadpool, it turns out Chris Hemsworth never shared a set with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.
GameSpot spoke with Chris Hemsworth at San Diego Comic-Con, where he was promoting Transformers One. When asked about his Deadpool and Wolverine cameo, Hemsworth says he didn’t actually film anything new for the movie.
“I didn’t film it. I haven’t seen the film,” he explains. “I believe it’s just clips from other movies that they’ve either digitally sort of arranged or done something with and plan to be in there.”
In the scene in question, Thor is shown on one of the TVA monitors cradling Deadpool as he dies, a moment supposedly depicting the far future. MCU fans may notice that the footage has actually been repurposed from 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, with Loki being swapped out for Deadpool.
“I might ask them why I didn’t get paid. That’s why, because I didn’t actually turn up,” Hemsworth adds. “I’m excited to watch it. I’m as big a fan as anyone.”
While Hemsworth may not have actually shared a set with Reynolds this time around, the vision of the future means it’s always possible that Thor and Deadpool could meet properly in future MCU films–especially as the MCU continues to dive into multiverse shenanigans.
Deadpool and Wolverine is out in theaters as of July 26.
