The first trailer for Marvel Studio’s Thunderbolts was released Monday morning and seemed to elicit a generally good vibe from fans. The film brings together some of the MCU villains and anti-heroes, and introduces the Sentry (Lewis Pullman), who is making his live-action debut. Sentry also apparently gained an additional finger along the way for some reason on the poster.
A poster was released shortly after the trailer dropped showing the team cramped together in awkward posing, and it’s one of the better-designed posters we’ve seen in recent years. However, fans noticed that AI might have been used to extend the original frame as Bob/Sentry has six fingers on his hand. Something he did not have in the trailer. Some have pointed out that Bob/Sentry may not have six figures after all. As of yet, Marvel has yet to comment on this finger issue.
There is a clear shot of Bob holding up both hands as he meets the team, who give the man a quizzical look when he wanders into the frame in his pajamas. In the poster released, Bob’s right hand has six visible fingers. If this is the result of AI, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has used the technology. The studio previously experimented with generative AI for the opening credits of Secret Invasion.
This version of the Thunderbolts consists of Red Guardian (David Harbour), White Widow/Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Winter Solider (Sebastian Stan). In the comics, they were members of the Masters of Evil, led by Baron Zemo, who all took superhero aliases to gain the trust of the world.
Thunderbolts hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
