The Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning movies–Part 1 and 2–probably won’t be the best last for Tom Cruise, if he has it his way. The actor has expressed his desire to continue playing Ethan Hunt until he’s 80 years old.
Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia, Cruise pointed to Harrison Ford still portraying Indiana Jones as an octogenarian as motivation. Ford, who’s 80 and turns 81 next week, stars in the just-released Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which has received mixed reviews.
“Harrison Ford is a legend; I hope to be still going; I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him,” said Cruise, who turned 61 on July 3. “I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.”
Cruise first assumed the role of Hunt in 1996’s Mission: Impossible, directed by Brian De Palma. Dead Reckoning Part 1 is the seventh installment in the film franchise and comes out July 12. The second part is set to premiere June 28, 2024.
For Dead Reckoning Part 1, Cruise trained three years for a stunt in the Mission: Impossible movie that involves speed flying. But that’s not the only wild stunt Cruise performs in the upcoming action flick. He also rides a motorcycle off a cliff.
