Tom Cruise Jumps Out Of A Helicopter To Thank You For Going To The Movies

Has there ever been a stunt that Tom Cruise didn’t like? Hard to say, but the actor was back at it with a new promo video for Top Gun: Maverick in which he’s shooting an airborne scene for Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 and Part 2.

The special announcement video begins with Cruise hanging out of a helicopter, thanking audiences for going to the theaters and supporting Top Gun: Maverick. It was Cruise’s first film ever to make over $1 billion globally at the box office. The camera then pans to show that Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie is beside the actor, and he tells Cruise they need to get a shot for the upcoming action film.

Cruise obliges after a bit of playful banter with the director. He falls back and starts skydiving over South Africa, where he says, “As always, thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.”

After wishing everyone happy holidays, Cruise signs off with: “We’ll see you at the movies.” He’s then seen freefalling in a spin before the video cuts to a promo ad for Top Gun: Maverick on Paramount+. The movie will arrive on the streaming service this Thursday, December 22.

Cruise is making a habit of saying, “See you at the movies” while skydiving, as he also made a Dead Reckoning promo video earlier this year for CinemaCon while filming an airplane stunt for the film.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruise was adamant in ensuring Top Gun: Maverick followed the traditional theater release model instead of premiering on a streaming service like so many other movies. The actor said earlier this year: “I make movies for the big screen.” His bet clearly paid off with Top Gun: Maverick.

GameSpot’s Top Gun: Maverick review was glowing, stating it’s “a masterclass on how to make a sequel to a movie everyone loved.” As the video above showcases, Cruise’s next big picture will be Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One. Ethan Hunt’s latest adventure is set to arrive in theaters July 14, 2023.
