Tom Hanks Sci-Fi Movie Finch Hits AppleTV Plus On November 5

Apple Original Films has announced that it will be the streaming home on November 5 for the long-delayed Tom Hanks-starring sci-fi movie, Finch. First announced as Bios in October 2017, the post-apocalyptic drama was originally slated for a 2020 theatrical release but the pandemic complicated those plans repeatedly.

Apple acquired Finch back in May this year. The movie is, according to a release (via The Hollywood Reporter), about “a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. But Finch, who has been living in an underground bunker for a decade, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear.” Finch eventually builds a robot–voiced by Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out)–and the trio “embarks on a perilous journey into a desolate American West.”

The movie promises to be an exploration of “the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive,” which should carry additional weight given recent real-world events. Apple also released a first-look photo, which can be viewed above.

Ivor Powell wrote the script for Finch with Craig Luck, who makes his feature-film writing debut. Finch is directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones), and filming finished back in 2019. In addition to Hanks and Jones, Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black), Laura Harrier (BlacKkKlansman), and Skeet Ulrich (Scream) also are among the cast.
