When you gotta go, you gotta go–even if you’re traveling faster than the speed of sound. That’s right, Top Gun: Maverick actor Lewis Pullman has revealed how he was able to pee while flying in jets for the film.
Pullman, who portrayed the wingman Bob in the Top Gun sequel, talked to Vanity Fair about making the movie. Because so much time was spent filming while flying, he learned first hand how fighter pilots relieve themselves while up in the air.

Now Playing: Top Gun: Maverick Stars on Who Sick During Flight Training
“We had two boots of gelatin powder strapped to our calves. It would solidify because if there was a leak, it would be a disaster,” said Pullman, who’s the son of Independence Day star Bill Pullman. “Let’s put it this way: I used both bags quite a bit.”
Pullman added that Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise is one of his mentors, along with his father. He mentioned that Cruise will “take a call at any point if we ever need help.”
Top Gun: Maverick became the first film to make $1 billion for Cruise at the worldwide box office. In GameSpot’s Top Gun: Maverick review, Chris E. Hayner wrote it’s “a worthy revival of the franchise.”
As for Pullman, he’ll next be seen later this year in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, starring Brie Larson (Captain Marvel). He has also appeared in The Starling Girl and The Line this year.
