Ubisoft's CoD-Style Shooter XDefiant Delayed Indefinitely

Ubisoft’s FPS XDefiant has already had a challenging road to release, and now the game is facing another setback. The development team has confirmed that XDefiant is now delayed indefinitely.

Following another round of public testing, Ubisoft discovered some “inconsistencies in the game experience” that need to be addressed before launch. As a result, Ubisoft has delayed the game’s launch indefinitely.

“The team will continue working to address these issues and testing them to make sure we deliver on our goal of being a best-in-class arcade shooter,” Ubisoft said, adding that it will share more information about launch “as it comes.”

Executive producer Mark Rubin, who previously held that role on a number of Call of Duty games, released a statement about this as well. He said the team has found “some things” that made the company decide it needed extra time to “fix or improve the experience for everyone.”

“I know it’s a bummer that we are moving the date especially since we seemed so close and that for many the game is great and they can’t wait to play, but I’d rather ship a game that is better for everyone,” Rubin said.

Previously, Ubisoft said XDefiant might launch in September or October, but issues during the console certification process led to an earlier delay. Now, Ubisoft is looking to launch the game “as soon as we can” and is not committing to a date just yet.

Whenever it’s ready, XDefiant will be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. XDefiant is a free-to-play shooter set in the future, featuring some similarities to Activision’s Call of Duty series.
