Uncharted Movie Has Big Second Weekend, Stays No. 1, But Batman Is Coming

Sony’s Uncharted movie remained the No. 1 film in America for its second weekend, reaching $23.2 million for its second weekend in the US. It fell only 47% from its huge opening-weekend performance.

In total, the Uncharted movie has now passed $83 million domestically. The film opened earlier in international markets, and has now made $226 million globally–and that’s before it arrives in China next month. These box office numbers come from Collider.

Now Playing: Uncharted Movie Post-Credits & Game References Explained

Uncharted didn’t have much competition at the box office this weekend against other heavy-hitters, as the only major new release was the Channing Tatum movie Dog, which made about $10 million.

Things will change this coming weekend, as WB’s highly anticipated The Batman opens on March 3 and it’s expected to be a big, big hit and bring in lots of money.

Sony Pictures executive Tom Rothman said Uncharted is now Sony’s next “franchise,” suggesting there will be a sequel, though an official announcement has not been made. Director Ruben Fleischer has said he wants to return for a potential sequel, and one of his ideas is to put Uncharted 4’s epic car chase scene into the film, should it get made. Presumably stars Tom Holland as Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully would return for a sequel, if it comes to fruition.

Fleischer and Holland are also keen to make a Jak and Daxter movie for PlayStation Productions.

The movie’s success is also bringing up renewed talk about the future of the Uncharted game series. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection released in January, bundling Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy on PS5, but no brand-new entries in the main series have been announced.
