After the success of Half Life: Alyx (the first Half Life game in 13 years), Valve co-founder and CEO Gabe Newell has confirmed that Valve has multiple games in the pipeline, and is looking to focus on more single-player experiences.
In an interview with 1 News, Newell talked about how Alyx’s release brought new energy to the studio. “Alyx was great — to be back doing single-player games, that created a lot of momentum inside of the company to do more of that,” Newell said. “We definitely have games in development that we’re going to be announcing — it’s fun to ship games.”

When it comes to what, exactly, these games are, and if they might be additional entries in the Portal and Half Life series however, Newell is keeping quiet. “I’ve successfully not spoken about those things for a long time and I hope to continue to not talk about them until they are moot questions,” he said. “The nice thing is, by not answering those questions, I avoid the community coming up with new, equally-difficult-to-answer questions.”
Among those difficult-to-answer questions was one poking at the nature of the rumored Valve title codenamed Citadel. When asked about it, Newell simply replied “We have a bunch of code names — are you referring to a code name?” The poker face remained strong throughout the internet, with Newell refusing to let any details or knowledge slip.

Whatever Valve has up its sleeve next is unclear. All we can do is hope that future titles are as solid as Half Life: Alyx. It was GameSpots’s Game of the Year in 2020 and our review gave it a 9 and said the game “has elevated many of the aspects we’ve come to love about Half-Life games…And as it concludes, Half-Life: Alyx hits you with something unforgettable, transcending VR tropes for one of gaming’s greatest moments.”
