Despite landing a leading role in Top Gun: Maverick, 2024 has turned out to be an even bigger year for Glen Powell. The hit rom-com, Anyone But You, established Powell as a leading man, and his next movie, Twisters, is expected to be one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters. But according to Powell, he won’t be putting on capes or superhero costumes anytime soon.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s new feature on Powell notes that the actor is adamant about avoiding “pandering Oscar bait” and “also Marvel fare.” Powell also turned down a leading role in the next Jurassic Park movie despite the fact that he loves the original film and the script for the latest installment.
“Jurassic is one of my favorite movies,” said Powell. “It’s one of the things I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I’m not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn’t help it. And the script’s great. The movie’s going to f***ing kill. It’s not about that. It’s about choosing where you’re going to make an audience happy and where you’re going to make yourself happy.”
However, Powell isn’t entirely avoiding franchises. As announced last month, Powell will star in a remake of The Running Man from director Edgar Wright.
