This Christmas, there’s a new Witcher series headed to Netflix. Titled Witcher: Blood Origin, the four-episode standalone series follows the creation of the first Witcher–a thousand years before Geralt was out and about slaying beasts. In a new video for the upcoming show, we get to know a bit more about one of the lead characters of the show, Èile.
Taking on the role of The Lark–Èile–is Sophia Brown (Giri/Haji, The Capture). Blood Origin follows her and a group of heroes who are taking on forces of evil. In a new video about the series, which you can see below, Brown explains her character’s connection to music and battle.

Now Playing: Witcher: Blood Origin – Meet Èile, The Fighting Bard
“Èile is from Raven Clan,” Brown says. “She was a child soldier, bred for war. She was fostered out to a sword master, Scian. And Scian introduced her to music. Music was necessary for her, to share stories, impart some relief and joy and strength into people. She also goes by the name The Lark.”
“She regrets leaving her family and her clan. She feels shame in not being the person the people she loves wanted her to be. She’s searching for clarity, and so it’s that self-discovery journey that we have to go on.”
All episodes of Witcher: Blood Origin will drop on Netflix on December 25. Witcher writer and producer Declan De Barra is the creator of the new series. And in addition to Brown, the show stars Michaelle Yeoh–as the previously mentioned Scian–Nathaniel Curtis, Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, Zach Wyatt, Laurence O’Fuarain, Francesca Mills, and Huw Novelli. The show also features Minnie Driver and fan-favorite Joey Batey, returning as Jaskier.
And while the Witcher series is based on a novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski, fans are clamoring for more games, and there’s one coming. It was announced in November that CD Projekt Red is developing a reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher game. The new game will be open world and be done in Unreal Engine 5. And of course, Witcher 3 will be getting a next-gen upgrade on December 14 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. So you can play as Geralt all over again, beating tavern owners in Gwent, instead of stopping monsters from terrorizing towns.
