There was a bit of an uproar over the weekend after internet sleuths discovered a job listing at Wonder Woman developer Monolith Productions that mentioned prospective employees would be maintaining a live-service game. However, publisher Warner Bros. stepped in to say not so fast, my friends.
According to IGN, a WB spokesperson set the record straight about Wonder Woman, stating that it’s “a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open-world. This third-person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service.”

Now Playing: Wonder Woman Reveal Trailer | Game Awards 2021
The response came after Wccftech spotted a gameplay lead software engineer position opening at Monolith that included “helping maintain a live software product or game” as a responsibility. However, at the time of publication, this info is currently no longer part of the job description.
Wonder Woman was revealed almost two years ago at The Game Awards in 2021. Since then, barely anything has been disclosed about the game. Monolith previously worked on the two Middle-earth games, with Shadow of Mordor releasing in 2014 and Shadow of War coming out in 2017. The developer’s previous experience with DC was the multiplayer-centric Gotham City Imposters in 2012.
Earlier this month, WB doubled down on live-service games again, even though the company’s best-selling game of the year is the single-player Hogwarts Legacy. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, from Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady, will be a focal point of that strategy going forward.
