Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – How To Get Epona

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Epona horse mount can be yours early in the game. However, there are some important caveats that our writers have discovered while playing. Here’s our guide to help you with finding Epona in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to get Epona in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You can summon Epona instantly if you scan a Link Amiibo with your Switch. Alternatively, you can find Epona in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom once you visit your first Stable. As our writers have shared, this was New Serenne Stable, which is northwest of Lookout Landing.

Technically, the open-world nature of the game means that you could visit regions in any order. However, NPCs like Purah tend to nudge you to head northwest to Hebra before the others. New Serenne Stable is also a fairly important location, as it’s where you’ll meet Impa for the Geoglyphs quest.

In any case, upon arriving at New Serenne Stable, simply talk to the proprietor. Our writers mentioned that the NPC said Link was a “good customer,” which meant that he could “borrow a horse.” Upon opening the selection menu, Epona was already available. It’s worth noting that Epona has a 0 Pull stat, which means she won’t bother pulling any object or cart for you.

That’s it, a fairly simple task to get Epona in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. So, what’s that caveat we mentioned earlier? Well, the thing is, the writers that found Epona have (a) Breath of the Wild installed, or (b) have a Breath of the Wild save file, or (c) a Link Amiibo.

Unfortunately, our other writer–yours truly–didn’t have BotW installed. I didn’t have a save file either. And, no, I don’t own a Link Amiibo. To be clear, this is actually my first Zelda game, too. Anyway, when I arrived at New Serenne Stable, there was no option to borrow a mount, and no Epona either.

We’ll update this guide with more confirmation soon, so stay tuned. Likewise, you can learn about other options in our how to get mounts guide and Stables overview guide.
