What are Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tears?

Before we discuss all the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Geoglyphs as part of the Dragon’s Tears main quest, let’s talk about what they actually are. Basically, these are huge drawings on the ground and on terrain features (akin to the Nazca Lines in Peru). They depict various personages and objects and, in certain parts of the pattern, you’ll notice the following:

A more opaque/darker “tear” – This is the Dragon’s Tear, a small pool of water that you can interact with. Once you do that, you’ll watch a cutscene, which can be replayed via the Memories tab.Small rock – Each Geoglyph also has at least one small rock. Pick it up and you’ll receive a Korok Seed.

Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tears map

In any case, it’s very hard to discover the exact location of a Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Geoglyph or Dragon’s Tear if you’re just running around at ground level. As such, the idea is to use various Skyview Towers to see the surrounding area from higher up in the air. From there, you can glide/skydive or use the floating islands in the sky region of the map.

In any case, you can see two images of the world map showing the Geoglyphs in the game:

Geoglyph main quest starting area and locations

All right, let’s talk about how you can actually start the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tear main quest. First, you’ll want to head to New Serenne Stable, which is northwest of Lookout Landing. It’s also where you might find Epona.

In the distance, you’ll see a Hot Air Balloon platform. Talk to the NPC, Impa, and she’ll tell you about the Geoglyph patterns. The idea is to reach high up in the air to see the pattern. You can drop flint and wood under the balloon to make it rise to the sky. From there, you’ll notice the first drawing, which is of a Zonai (probably Rauru). The Dragon’s Tear is the pool in one of the eyes. Interact with it and watch the cutscene, then talk to Impa. This will lead you to the Forgotten Temple further north.

The inner chamber has a design depicting the world map, with the Geoglyph patterns also shown. You can either take a photo of that using the Purah Pad Camera, or refer to the featured image and map images in our guide. In any case, we list down the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tear locations:

Reward: Finding all Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tears

After discovering the 11 Geoglyphs and Dragon’s Tears in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you should’ve unlocked 11 additional Memories or cutscenes. This will also cause another scene to play, one where a tear falls down from the sky. It will land on the “Swirly Beach” in Akkala, all the way in the northeastern tip of the map.

Make your way there to interact with another pool of water. This scene will show the culmination of this branch of the story, giving you a glimpse as to what may have happened. For your efforts, you should unlock the 12th Memory.

Likewise, the surrounding area has several Silent Princess flowers, which can be used to make Sneaky Elixirs. One more thing of note is that this may have something to do with the true ending of the game, but we’ve yet to confirm that.
