The mysterious Nintendo Switch Online test that begins later this month comes with a warning for people chosen to participate: Please don’t disclose or discuss it at all.
User OatmealDome was invited to the test and shared a page from the disclosure form that says, “We request that you do not discuss or disclose content from either the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program test software or website with others.”
Of course, this is the internet, so it’s always possible–and actually likely–that some information about the test will slip out. Despite being referred to by some as an NDA, the agreement does not appear to be that strict. In any event, the message here is that Nintendo seemingly wants to keep things quiet, even if that may be an unrealistic expectation.
The playtest runs October 23-November 5, and to participate, you must have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. The test has reached its user cap and no one else is being allowed in.
The announcement of the playtest came just days after Nintendo released a firmware update for the Switch that was described as “major.” Some are speculating that this upcoming test is in some way related to the next Nintendo console, the Switch 2. That’s pure conjecture, though.
The Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo decides to call its next home console, is in the works now and will be announced in the coming months. Nintendo will release its next earnings report on November 5, and some are expecting the Switch 2 to be announced around then, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.
