An Online Horizon Game Is Guerrilla's Next Project – Report

The next project from the Horizon studio Guerrilla Games is reportedly an online game, and the third single-player entry in the series is still a while away.

On the Spawn Wave podcast, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said, “Horizon Online is [Guerrilla’s] next project, not whatever the third single-player game looks like. So that one might be a ways off.” Schreier also said that PlayStation’s live-service initiative was “no joke” and that this Horizon online project is one of the few ones that hasn’t been already canceled or flopped like Concord did.

Sony is leaning into the Horizon franchise heavily with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Lego Horizon Adventures. The former adds visual fidelity on par with the PS5’s capabilities as well as accessibility options. The latter is a family-friendly version of the game with an emphasis on co-op. It’s also the first PlayStation Studios game to get a release on Nintendo Switch.

Sony’s live-service initiative has been a mixed bag so far. Helldivers 2 set records being the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever, yet Concord was pulled offline only two weeks after launch due to reportedly abysmal sales and low player interest. Naughty Dog also canceled the Last of Us online game last year.
