Ballerina Trailer Puts Anna De Armas Center Stage In John Wick Universe

The first trailer for Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick franchise, has been released. Ana de Armas stars as Eve Macarro, a Ruska Roma ballerina seeking revenge against hitmen responsible for her family’s murder. The film is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.

The storyline unfolds between John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and John Wick Chapter 4, focusing on the character originally introduced in the third film, portrayed by Unity Phelan. The trailer emphasizes Eve’s brutal quest for vengeance, featuring action sequences where she uses an ice skate as a weapon and uses a fire hose against a flamethrower.

Keanu Reeves returns as John Wick, and according to writer Shay Hatten, he plays a significant role in the film, and does appear in the new trailer above. “Wick is a real character, and not just kind of a one-piece cameo,” Hatten told Collider. Additional cast members include Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, the late Lance Reddick, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus.

Ballerina–technically titled From the World of John Wick: Ballerina–is directed by Len Wiseman, with a script by Hatten based on characters created by Derek Kolstad. The film builds on the success of John Wick Chapter 4, which grossed over $440 million globally. This spin-off follows other extensions of the franchise, including the prequel miniseries The Continental, which premiered in September 2023.

De Armas expressed enthusiasm about the project earlier this month in an interview with Collider. “I’m very proud of it. It’s really exciting. It’s dangerous, it’s sexy, it’s very ‘John Wick.’ I think people are going to be surprised.”

An August Deadline report indicated that John Wick: Chapter 5 remains in development. Additionally, a separate spin-off movie centered on Donnie Yen’s Caine has previously been announced.
