Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Requires Fraction Of Storage Space Versus Last Game

When Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 lands on PC and Xbox Series X|S this November, it will take up far less storage space than the last game. In fact, the sequel will require roughly one-fifth of Microsoft Flight Simulator’s install size: 30GB versus more than 150GB.

Xbox Wire took a dive into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and highlighted how the installation size has been shrunken down. The short answer: It’s utilizing cloud streaming. Microsoft notes the sequel will stream in higher details for your aerial adventures. So, for instance, there’s no reason to have all of Europe downloaded on your device when you only plan to take off over the US.

“The very important thing is overall bandwidth consumption is way down, because you only download what you really see when you see it, and we don’t pre-download at like hundreds of gigabytes,” said Sebastian Wloch, CEO and cofounder of Asobo Studio. “… Now we integrated everything into the cloud, and it is all streamed and kept into a rolling cache on the hardware. You don’t have to install any new World Updates; they’re just streamed seamlessly.”

Microsoft and Asobo also touted Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s career system, which aims to replicate a real-world experience for aviators. That means picking any airport available in the sequel and advancing through a certification tree.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was unveiled at last year’s Xbox Game Showcase. The sequel was given a release date at this year’s Xbox Game Showcase. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will launch November 19. The standard edition of the game will be a day-one title on Xbox Game Pass.
