If Disney ever decides to make a live-action Frozen movie, Anya Taylor-Joy is hopeful she gets the call to play Elsa. Asked in a recent interview what her dream Disney role would be, she said she would leap at the chance to have magical ice powers.
“I think Frozen would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand,” she told Vogue Hong Kong (via EW), referring to Elsa’s magical ability. “Also, you’d just be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick.”
Taylor-Joy said she’s also keen to play Elsa because she’s “addicted to hard work” and would like the chance to be in a musical. “I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me,” she said.
To be clear, no live-action Frozen movie has been announced by Disney. But the company does have a history of adapting its animated films into live-action. In recent years, Disney has released live-action versions of Mulan, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast, just to name a few.
While there is no live-action Frozen on the horizon, Disney is pressing ahead with Frozen 3 and Frozen 4, which were announced in 2023. Not much is known about them, however.
The original Frozen was released in 2013, becoming a bonafide phenomenon thanks in part to the Oscar-winning song, “Let It Go.” A sequel, Frozen II, came out in 2019. Kristen Bell voices Anna, while Idina Menzel plays her older sister Elsa in the series.
Taylor-Joy recently starred in the Mad Max movie Furiosa, in which she played the title character. She has a number of upcoming projects in the works, including Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge and the film Sacrifice with Brendan Fraser, Chris Evans, and Salma Hayek.
