Andy Serkis Reveals When The Batman Part II Will Begin Filming

Aside from Joker: Folie à Deux, there will be no Batman-related films on the big screen for just over two years. The Batman – Part II was originally slated to arrive in 2025, but it was recently pushed back. Now, Andy Serkis, the actor who played Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman, has revealed when the sequel will begin filming.

Via Popverse, Serkis was a guest at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024 over the weekend. And while Serkis said he didn’t know any details about The Batman Part II’s story, he was very open about the film’s schedule.

“Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I’ve just found out that we’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year,” related Serkis. “Therefore, if you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that.”

Aside from Serkis, Robert Pattinson will be back as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. Beyond that, it’s less clear who else will return and which villain will be featured in the sequel. Regardless, Serkis is confident that writer and director Matt Reeves will deliver a sequel that lives up to the first movie.

“I know that Matt is working really hard on the script,” said Serkis. “Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it’s going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing. I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more.”

Prior to their work on The Batman, Andy Serkis and Matt Reeves collaborated on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, both of which featured Serkis in the lead role of Caesar. The Batman Part II will hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
